IFS for Therapists

Being a therapist is complex work and liable to activate different parts of us. In our work together, we will hone in on what comes up for you in/around your therapy practice, build your understanding of and relationships with these parts of you, and ultimately relieve and unburden them so that you can show up more resourced and grounded in sessions. This will also offer therapists interested in pursuing IFS clinically an opportunity to become familiar with the model.

What can I expect?

  • 8-12 weeks of virtual individual therapy

  • Focused support with activation related to direct service work (anxiety, fears, anger, grief, imposter syndrome, compassion fatigue, numbness, overwhelm, and more)

  • Opportunity to work through countertransference related to specific cases

  • More capacity to show up resourced and grounded in sessions

Who is this for?

  • New and seasoned clinicians

  • Therapy students, body workers, social workers, and other direct service providers

  • Therapists interested in IFS but not yet ready to pursue training or long-term psychotherapy

  • Queer and trans providers seeking competent, affirming care

What if I’m already in therapy?

This offering is short-term, specified therapy that is meant to complement ongoing psychotherapy. While our focus will be on the parts of you that come up around your work, it is very possible that these parts will bring up concerns related to other areas of your life. When this happens, we will decide together whether to continue to work with the part, or if you will continue this work elsewhere (for example, in your ongoing therapy or with other supports). We will check in throughout our process so that what we work on remains explicit and within your control. I am happy to communicate with your therapist to coordinate care if desired.

Will this provide me with clinical supervision or IFS training?

No. This is not supervision or a replacement for clinical consultation.  While you may discuss specific cases in our work together (within HIPAA guidelines), our focus will be on your experience and healing, not your client’s, and I will not give input on your clinical work.

This is not an IFS training and will not teach you how to use the IFS model. It is, however, meant to offer therapists interested in pursuing IFS clinically an opportunity to become familiar with the model. I recommend the QTIFS Foundations Course and the IFS Institute for trainings.

Why are you offering this?

I have been receiving IFS therapy and integrating IFS into my clinical work for many years. Through these experiences, I have come to believe deeply in the power of IFS to relieve symptoms and build insight, compassion, integration, values-alignment, and overall well-being. I also know firsthand and via colleagues that clinical work can activate a need for support that goes beyond the frame that traditional supervision or consultation provide. I hope to offer a space that can meet this need and support practitioners in becoming their most grounded, unburdened, and uniquely-them selves.
